Cabin Notes

We are still in the midst of this glorious streak of summer-like weather and we are all blissed out on warmth and more vitamin D than our northern bodies know what to do with. I pulled out the summer clothes bins and I’ve been dressing Flora in nothing but sundresses and bloomers- in May!

Often this time of year there is still a pile of grey snow left hiding in the shadows on the north side of the house and we still need to throw on the winter jackets after the sun goes down. This year we are making lemonade stands (the makeshift, cardboard box variety,)

Getting out There
The weather was beautiful today, after a string of cold, rainy, grey days it felt so good to be outside and we spent most of the day out there.  The boys invented a new game on the trampoline called “ball war” involving more soccer and volley balls then I ever knew we owned, and a lot of hooting and laughing (and no injuries, thankfully. This game seems to be played boys against balls somehow, and I’m not arguing.)

Flora loves being “ow-side” more than anything. She happily putters around the backyard, finding stray toys, digging in the dirt

Cabin Notes

April-6

We took a little train trip to the coast for a spring family reunion to celebrate my mom’s birthday. It was a wonderful whirlwind of cousin time, good food, beautiful weather, baby snuggles and too-short-but-still-lovely visits. We took over the common room at the B & B with egg dyeing and chess games and my mom’s spontaneous polkas with the grandbabies.

This weekend we finally found our way back into the mountains. We had only the vaguest of “family time” plans for Equinox Sunday, but when the day dawned bright and beautiful we pulled out our stack of local maps and notes on hiking trails and decided on a trip into the hills.
